February was a month full of progress and big steps in our project! We worked hard on the gîte and also got busy outside.
We laid the entire floor this month, a huge milestone. In addition, all the beds have been placed, which means we now really get a picture of what the rooms will look like. The kitchen was also installed, an important part of the gîte, and the new lamps went into place. With the first decorations, it is already starting to feel like a cozy holiday home.
In addition to the gîte, major work was also carried out on the swimming pool and the septic tank. The pool workers arrived first: the dirty water was drained, the old liner was removed and new filters were installed. In addition, the pillars were installed on which the tarpaulin will later be attached. We are now waiting for their return to finish everything off. Then it was time for the septic tank. First, they dug, after which the tanks were delivered and installed. And yes, you read that right: tanks, plural! No fewer than three tanks were needed for the capacity of our chambres d’hôtes – one large and two smaller ones. Once these were in place, the outflow field was also installed. Then a new pipe had to be connected to the pipe from our house, which runs to the small barn. This is already a step forward in the preparation for when we renovate this barn. With all the stones that came out of the ground during the excavation work, our parking lot was also created.
Another small but important moment this month was receiving our new French number plates – an official touch to our adventure here.
We also started with the construction of the garden. This outdoor project will grow step by step, and we have already started with the toy tower. At the end of February our family came to visit and together we made a nice start on this project. It was nice to share this progress with loved ones and continue to build our dream together.
March promises to be another busy month, with many more exciting developments, and we look forward to sharing them all with you!
